Our sister organization LOWDSA in collaboration with the IISD Experimental Lakes Area is inviting you to learn about algal blooms and their impact on our freshwater systems.

IISD Experimental Lakes Area (IISD-ELA) is a world-renowned natural laboratory comprised of 58 small lakes and their watersheds set aside for scientific research, right in our backyard! In lieu of LOWDSA's annual bus trips to the site, we hope you'll join us virtually to get the latest on IISD-ELA's research projects and how they impact us.

Mike Paterson will be talking about one of IISD-ELA's long-term research projects on nutrients and how it helps us understand algal blooms.

Mike has worked as a Research Scientist since 1992. His research has focused on the ecosystem effects of human activities on freshwater lakes and his areas of expertise include aquatic food webs, plankton ecology, nutrients and contaminants. While at IISD-ELA, Michael has been involved in whole-ecosystem studies on the effects of hydroelectric reservoir development, aquaculture, eutrophication, contaminants, acidification and climate change.

LOWDSA's LakeSmart team is looking forward to having you join us to learn and grow as environmental stewards of the beautiful Lake of the Woods district!
