We are very happy to announce a new member of the LOWWSF team!
Julianna Wanke joined the Foundation in January 2026 as the first Communications and Information Management Specialist.
Born and raised in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, Julianna takes her passion for the environment into her educational journey. Julianna graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2023 with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a focus in Natural Resource Management. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science at the University of Manitoba and in partnership with IISD-Experimental Lakes Area. Her research involves investigating the competition growth factors among wild rice (Manoomin) and cattails in alternative saturated soil conditions. This question came from conversations with local community members to see if wild rice can be re-seeded where cattails now persist.
In her spare time, Julianna enjoys spending time outside with family in the Whiteshell, exploring the backcountry on multi-day hiking, canoe trips, trail running or cross-country skiing. When indoors, Julianna enjoys drafting and sewing clothing, bags, and more!
Julianna looks forward to bringing her creativity towards collaboratively working with the team to develop communications materials for the Foundation and ultimately, increase the environmental network within the watershed. Julianna can be reached at
